Addressing tips for India
- Use the six-digit Indian PIN code exactly as supplied by the recipient; the UPU examples place it below the city or to the right of the locality name.[1]
- For urban addresses, write the addressee, street or premises line, locality, then the PIN code; add the state when the address includes it.[1]
- For rural addresses, village, post office, tehsil or taluk, district and state details may all matter for delivery.[1]
- If the recipient gives district or taluk details that do not have their own field, keep them in the second address line rather than dropping them.[1]

Questions about sending mail to India
- How long does mail to India take?
- We estimate 10โ18 business days after mailing. It is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date, and the count starts on the day we mail your letter, not the day you order.
- Can I send a letter to India from another country?
- Yes. You order online from wherever you are, and we print and mail the letter for you, so you don't need stamps or a trip to the post office. Once your order is assigned, its page shows the country it was mailed from.
- Can I send a registered letter to India?
- Not at the moment: registered letters aren't available for India. A tracked letter gives you a tracking number.
- Can I track a letter to India?
- Yes, with a tracked letter. Tracking updates depend on the postal networks along the way, so they may not cover every step. Your order page shows the updates we receive.
- Do I need to enter a state or province for India?
- Yes, the address form asks for it and we print it as part of the address. Pick the address from the suggestions to fill it in automatically.
- Where does the Indian PIN code go?
- The UPU sheet says the six-digit postcode is written to the right of, or below, the locality name. MaisonMail prints the reviewed layout with the state above the PIN code when a state is provided.[1]
- Do I need the Indian state or district?
- Use whatever the recipient provides. The UPU examples include state, district, taluk or post office details for many addresses, especially outside dense urban areas.[1]
- Where should I put village, tehsil or district details in MaisonMail?
- Put them in the second address line if they do not fit the street, city or state fields. MaisonMail keeps that line above the locality and PIN code.
