Postal terms in France, Germany, Italy and the UK
Official decision (Bescheid)
A Bescheid is a formal decision by a German authority, such as a tax office, Jobcenter or benefits agency, that settles an individual case. Think of it as an official ruling addressed to you, not an ordinary information letter. In Germany, it usually ends with a Rechtsbehelfsbelehrung stating the available remedy, the deadline and where to send it; the deadline normally runs from notification, which is not automatically the date printed on the letter.
