Termination notice (Kündigung)
A Kündigung is a one-sided declaration that ends a continuing contract, such as a job, tenancy, subscription or insurance policy, usually after the applicable notice period (Kündigungsfrist). Think of it as the German counterpart of a résiliation or a notice to quit. In Germany, it generally takes effect when it reaches the other party, not when it is posted; employment and residential tenancy terminations need a signed original, while many consumer contracts accept text form. It is distinct from a withdrawal (Widerruf).
