Postal terms in France, Germany, Italy and the UK
Tacit renewal (tacito rinnovo)
Tacito rinnovo is the automatic renewal of a fixed-term contract at expiry unless a party sends a disdetta in time. Think of it as a subscription that rolls over by itself. In Italy, a tacit-renewal clause in standard terms has effect only if you specifically approved it in writing, each tacit renewal of an insurance policy lasts at most two years, and compulsory car insurance (RC auto) cannot renew tacitly; once a phone or internet contract has renewed, you can leave at any time with at most one month’s notice.
