Notice to perform (diffida ad adempiere)
A diffida ad adempiere is a written notice, in a contract with obligations on both sides, that gives the other party a deadline to perform and declares that the contract will otherwise be terminated. Think of it as a final deadline that ends the contract, not just a demand for payment. In Italy, the deadline is normally at least 15 days; if it passes without performance, the contract is generally terminated automatically and you claim restitution and damages instead of performance. The word diffida is also used loosely for any formal warning, which terminates nothing.
