Court payment order (Mahnbescheid)
A Mahnbescheid is a payment order issued by a German court on the creditor’s application, without examining whether the claim is valid, in the simplified court debt-collection procedure (gerichtliches Mahnverfahren). Think of it as the court stage that may follow private reminders, not a letter you write yourself. In Germany, the debtor generally has two weeks from service to object (Widerspruch), which can lead to ordinary court proceedings; without an objection, the creditor can apply for an enforcement order.
