Formal complaint (reclamo)
A reclamo is a dated written complaint asking an Italian company to fix a problem with goods, a service or a bill and to give a reasoned written reply. Think of it as the first formal step in a consumer dispute. In Italy, companies in regulated sectors must reply within set deadlines, such as 30 days for electricity and gas, 45 days for insurers and 60 days for most banking complaints, and a reclamo is usually required before bodies such as ARERA’s Servizio Conciliazione or the Arbitro Bancario Finanziario will take your case; it does not oblige the company to agree.
